{"id":208,"date":"2014-04-12T22:07:31","date_gmt":"2014-04-12T22:07:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.blog.savn.tv\/?p=208"},"modified":"2014-04-28T18:33:14","modified_gmt":"2014-04-28T18:33:14","slug":"day-4-traveling-with-the-general","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.blog.savn.tv\/?p=208","title":{"rendered":"Day 4 &#8211; THE GENERAL LANDS IN ZIMBABWE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: medium\">Well, the rains ceased, the clouds parted and the sun came out \u2013 just in time to greet The Salvation Army\u2019s International Leaders \u2013 General Andre Cox and Commissioner Silvia Cox \u2013 to \u2018their home\u2019 of Zimbabwe \u2013 and what a welcome it was!<\/span> \u00a0<span style=\"font-size: medium\">Following a competition, the Braeside Citadel \u2018hosho\u2019 brigade, was selected to play at the Harare airport for the arrival of The Army\u2019s International Leaders.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.blog.savn.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/wide.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-435\" src=\"http:\/\/www.blog.savn.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/wide-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"wide\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.blog.savn.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/wide-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.blog.savn.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/wide-800x600.jpg 800w, http:\/\/www.blog.savn.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/wide.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium\">The group, comprised of 40 musicians who play traditional African instruments, presented several glorious and rhythmic selections in honor of their special visitors. The joyful presentations were brilliantly received by all, including General Cox, who joined in traditional African dancing with one of the brigade members.<\/span> \u00a0<span style=\"font-size: medium\">The Territorial Band also presented several familiar numbers to the delight of the International and Territorial leaders and passers-by who stopped to share in the colorful and rhythmic celebrations \u2013 in true Salvation Army African style. For me, it was very moving when General Cox said \u2018it feels like coming home\u2019; I could sense the joy and emotion in his words having visited his childhood home and primary school only the day before.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.blog.savn.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/shake1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-432\" src=\"http:\/\/www.blog.savn.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/shake1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"shake\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.blog.savn.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/shake1-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.blog.savn.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/shake1-800x600.jpg 800w, http:\/\/www.blog.savn.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/shake1.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium\">Today we also visited the General William Booth Training College where we interviewed two cadets of the\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-size: medium\">Heralds of Christ<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-size: medium\">\u00a0Session for the documentary. Their stories of courage, compassion and hope were inspiring. An interesting moment as I wandered the college grounds was when I came upon a site dedicated by General Arnold Brown \u2013 Brenda, my wife&#8217;s uncle \u2013 when he was the international leader of The Salvation Army. That was a nice familial moment far from home.<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blog.savn.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/cadet-Brenda.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-433\" src=\"http:\/\/www.blog.savn.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/cadet-Brenda-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"cadet Brenda\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.blog.savn.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/cadet-Brenda-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/www.blog.savn.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/cadet-Brenda.jpg 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium\">Well, we have a busy weekend ahead as tomorrow we are filming in a rural village where many of the population suffer from HIV and Sunday we fly on Air Zimbabwe to film in Victoria Falls.
